Question:

I’m interested in finding a new Job and roll, my current job/roll was sort of a desperation landing spot after a Startup position With Benvenue didn’t work for any of us. I’m concerned how to spin the last couple of moves because they are both short lived and I’m at an age where the younger candidate has a cleaner resume. Wichita is tough to find good opportunities. I’ve had success but not sure how to enhance my chances to employers. Appreciate your help.

Answer:

You need to be able to articulate what you have that might qualify you for one of the millions of jobs that cannot be done by somebody just out of school, and apply for those jobs. Consider the key characteristics that potential employers are seeking and think how you can actually demonstrate these based on your expansive work history. In general, employers do value experience and the ability to keep one’s head, which in most people improves with age. You have a competitive advantage and the experience that counts for a lot. Use it to your advantage. There definitely is one place that is looking for somebody with the air of calm authority that perhaps a young candidate might struggle to project. Do you have a network of contacts? Get in touch with them for leads. There may be a role closer to you than you think. Go for a LinkedIn profile revamp for best results.
