The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will be a key member of the product Design Engineering team responsible for getting engineered systems and components implemented into series production. Duties include 1) leading a team of 3-4 manufacturing engineers who proactively engage design engineers to build in production requirements and then create work instructions and tooling change to implement them into series production, and 2) leading4-6 manufacturing support technicians who resolve day-to-day design-related assembly issues. He or she will engage a broad scope of designs and many fast-paced projects that require creativity, initiative and hands-on engagement.
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will be accountable to ensure new product designs are provided with relevant DFM requirements, appropriate work instructions, tool usage plans, and quality check measures used to build vehicles. He or she will create, review and approve models and drawings of components, assembly-aids or special. He or she will be responsible for entire scope of the vehicle assembly process including Chassis, Steering, Body, Interior, Electrical Wiring, Engines, Transmissions, and other subsystems, including:
Evaluate designs upstream and provide input such that they can be integrated into production efficiently with the least amount of time and labor and the highest degree of quality and repeatability.
Ensure that any defects experienced by line assemblers are documented and resolved.
Ensure coverage for all hours of operation and off hour production emergencies.
Ensure level of effort estimates for the manufacturing and assembly of new designs and for customer change orders is provided for assessment of manufacturing cost.
Stabilize new products from R&D into Production by working proactively with all stakeholders and team members.
See that root causes of technical issues in production are identified and recorded and that solutions are developed to fix problems.
Interact with project teams for new products development giving insights from technical issues of previous products.
Recommend solutions for enhancing manufacturing efficiency.
This person will be primarily accountable for the below deliverables. Other low priority or low frequency tasks may also be assigned.
Day-to-Day resolutions of manufacturing issues encountered during assembly.
Manufacturing work instructions.
Tooling, fixturing and assembly-aid design, integration and implementation.
Lessons-Learned from previous builds or process modifications.
Design for Manufacturing analysis of new designs.
Accurate reporting, tracking and closure of manufacture-ability issues
7 - 10 years hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment
Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
Hands-on experience with process design and process controls
Experience in mechanical CAD packages such as Inventor, NX, Solidworks, CREO
5+ years of manufacturing experience in transit buses, trucks, automobiles, aircraft, earthmoving or Ag equipment industries.
Experience working in a PLM/PDM system environment such as Siemens Teamcenter
Electrical and mechanical system troubleshooting experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably manufacturing engineering
